The Yakezie, a Group of Honorable Personal Finance Bloggers: Official Launch

By Kevin

The official site of the Yakezie has launched today! The Yakezie group started out as an Alexa ranking challenge, and was founded by Financial Samurai. Challenge entrants committed to proudly displaying the Yakezie badge on their website, writing consistently (2 – 4 times a week), and selflessly promoting others.

I can personally say that I am happy to have joined the Yakezie. I have learned a lot from my fellow bloggers and on blogging in general. I really enjoy the community, and I know that I can always find some valuable Yakezie wisdom on a given finance or lifestyle topic. The Yakezie has been a great boost, and I am proud to be part of such an honorable group of fellow bloggers.

If you want to learn more about the Yakezie, check out the official website at Yakezie.com! Little House has also posted about the launch (she beat me to the punch! ;)), and you can read her thoughts on her site, Little House in the Valley.

P.S. Fellow Yakeziers, if you read this and also post about the launch, please let me know and I will also add you here. Please post about the launch! Let’s get the Yakezie to the top!

Great stuff Kev, thanks so much for helping spread the word!

We’ve got a new initiative on the badges where members who’ve “beat the challenge” by breaking 200,000 on Alexa will display the new badge to display their membership! (have like 7-8 different versions)

We’ll launch a new round of the Yakezie Challenge for new entrants over a 6 month time period and participants can use our old badges.

    Will explain more on Wed!

    Cheers,

    Sam

Interesting… How long has this been around? Actually, I’ve been checking this out since yesterday but could not absorb the information as my mind is currently at a mess. Will take another look when I feel better… -_-

      Hey Tim,

The official website just launched, but the Yakezie has been around since the beginning of the year AFAIK. Financial Samurai just posted some new info about the challenge; you can read more about it here: http://yakezie.com/164/personal-finance/yakezie-badges-belts-forums-and-leaders

    Hi Kevin,

Thanks for the quick answer. I was checking the site but I’m a little loss. How exactly does the number 5 rule: Selflessly promote others work? I mean… What do I need to do? Do I have to post links to other people’s blogs like what you seem to do here? How often do I need to do that?

      Hey Tim,

Yep, it can include linking to other blogs, allowing people to guest post on your blog, etc… there is no hard and fast rule there; you don’t have to link to every single blog (there are more than 100+ of them!) every week, but you are encouraged to visit the other sites, comment, and link to anything you find interesting. That is the reciprocal aspect of the Yakezie challenge and one of the things that makes it really great, IMHO.
