3 Visual Storytelling Tips to Give Your Online Brand an Edge

By Mich

library of booksContent that includes a visual gets 94% more views than pure text alone. In other words, visual storytelling should be a huge part of your company’s marketing strategy.

But many businesses feel overwhelmed by creating visual assets. It can be intimidating, but these tips will help you out.

Check out these 3 visual storytelling tips that will give your brand an edge.

Stay on Brand

First and foremost, you have to stay on brand. Nothing is worse than poorly designed graphics that use random colors, juvenile fonts, and low-quality stock images.

Instead, as you’re creating visual assets, be sure they’re on brand. Use your company’s approved fonts and colors. If you don’t have those, pick them and stick to them.

This way, when someone sees one of your assets on your website, social media, or in print, they’ll immediately recognize that it’s your company.

And whether you want a banner maker or a website builder, there are tons of tools to choose from online.

Keep It Simple

Be sure you also keep in mind that simplicity is key. People’s attention spans are incredibly short, and you only have a few seconds to catch their eye.

To do this, keep your message succinct and to the point. Have one main concept you want to get across and get to it quickly.

Also, be sure to avoid words that are too technical or detailed. The last thing you want to do is confuse people.

Incorporate People

Last but not least, you should try to include people in your visual storytelling whenever possible. Consumers connect quickly when they see a person in a visual asset.

This is especially true when they can relate to that person. To accomplish this, include images or videos of people who are similar to your target consumer. That way, they can imagine themselves in their shoes, which can bring them that much closer to becoming a customer.

This will also make your brand more approachable and seem more down to earth.

Additionally, using people will often help you tell more interesting stories, based on their real experiences. And that’s the whole goal of visual storytelling.

So not only will using people catch your audience’s attention, it will help you seem more approachable as a brand and improve the stories you tell. It’s a win-win all around.

Final Visual Storytelling Thoughts

There you have it: 3 tips that will improve your brand’s visual storytelling, taking it to the next level. Now it’s time to take what you’ve learned and apply it to your company.

Every business is in a different situation and these principles may need to be adapted to fit your specific needs. But whatever the case, the ideas still apply.
