When I came up with the idea to start this blog, it struck me that there are two ways that you can treat life: The first way is like the curve of a ball: It rises up high, reaches a peak, but eventually it falls back down and hits the ground. Every one of us knows someone who acts as if there is nothing forward to look to except hard work and old age.
The second way is like the path of a rocket: It blasts out of the ground, rises up high, punches through the atmosphere, and then it keeps on going. Even if it runs out of fuel, it has enough momentum to break through the pull of Earth’s gravity. With this kind of life path, every day is one to look forward to, and one is filled with hope for the future.
So what does it mean to “invest it wisely”? What is it that we invest, and how can we do so wisely?
To answer these questions, first we have to look at what are the most important resources in our world. Are they… oil? uranium? iron?
While these resources are important to living in a modern society, they are not the most important resources at our disposal. Other than those resources which we absolutely require in order to survive, such as food, shelter, and clothing, the three most important resources that we have at our disposal is our health, our mind, and our time. If we invest them wisely, we can make the fullest use of these resources to enhance our quality of life and reach our goals.
Health
Quite possibly the most important of the three primary resources at our disposal. Without health, we cannot enjoy our time, wealth, nor use our mind effectively.
Mind
Our mind is the key to achieving our goals and everything we desire in life. It is the motor which we use to drive us to our destination.
Time
All of us, whether rich or poor, have the same amount of time allotted to us each day. Time is the space through which we apply our other resources in order to act upon the world. Since this space is limited, proper management of it is required in order to achieve our goals.
Tomorrow, I’ll talk about expected value, basic pitfalls that many people run into, and I’ll introduce my own personal dreams and goals. See you then!
